Over 200 Patents Filed

Olay scientists have been researching Niacinamide for more than 20 years and published over 30 research articles on Niacinamide, many in partnership with leading universities and dermatologists. As a result, since 2000, P&G Beauty Care has filed over 200 patent applications globally (and growing) on Niacinamide related technology.

Olay’s 25+ Years of Niacinamide (B3) Research

1990: We knew niacinamide in the diet played an important role in skin health and so in the 1990'swe began to investigate how it could be used topically

2000: Olay discovered that beyond B3's Key role in strengthening the skin's moisture barrier it worked on multiple visible signs of aging ( wrinkles, texture and tone ). This led to the creation of Total Effect.

2004: Clinical studies demonstrate that niacinamide improves skin texture, visible hyperpigmentation, fine lines/wrinkles and red blotchiness

2009: New genomic analysis show niacinamide decreases inflammatory response genes in vitro, leading to a positive impact on skin aging

2014: Studies show niacinamide significantly reduces UV damage to facial skin by protecting the skin barrier

2017: Published research on niacinamide and other forms of vitamin B3 hits a new high. Its role in impacting the overall aging process leads to it being called the new ' Fountain of Youth '
